Inaugural ABA Young Investigator Award of the Asian Biophysics Association

The Asian Biophysics Association (ABA) is delighted to announce the inaugural ABA Young Investigator Award (YIA).

The awardee will receive an honorarium of US$400 and an award certificate, and will present a talk in the ABA Symposium at the 2024 IUPAB Congress (https://www.c-linkage.co.jp/iupab2024-bsj-kyoto/ ). The awardee will also be granted complimentary registration at the 2024 IUPAB Congress with cash rebate upon the arrival at the registration desk.

In brief, the award will be made to an independent researcher, within 12 years of their PhD at the time of the award, who has made important and well-recognized contributions to the field of biophysics. Nominees may be of any nationality or academic rank, but must be current members of one of the ABA member societies (http://asian-bp.org/) or the relevant societies from Singapore, Vietnam or The Philippines. The work that is the basis for their nomination should have been carried out primarily in one of these countries.

Nominees must submit an abstract via the 2024 IUPAB Congress website (https://www.c-linkage.co.jp/iupab2024-bsj-kyoto/) – the deadline is February 15, 2024.
The complete nomination packet, in PDF format, should be emailed to the Chair of the ABA YIA Committee, Professor Ray Norton (ray.norton(at)monash.edu) by February 29, 2024.

GUIDELINES of Asian Biophysics Association Young Investigator Award

The Asian Biophysics Association (ABA) invites all biophysicists to nominate candidates for the
2024 ABA Young Investigator Award to be presented at the 2024 IUPAB Biophysics Congress in
Kyoto, Japan.
The award will be presented to a young investigator for outstanding contributions to the field of biophysics. The winner will receive an honorarium of US$400 and an award certificate.

Eligibility:
• The award will be made to an independent researcher, within 12 years from their PhD at the
time the prize is given. Allowance will be made for career breaks such as parental leave or
compulsory military service.
• The nominee will be expected to have made important and well-recognized contributions to
the field of biophysics.
• Nominees cannot nominate themselves.
• Nominees may be of any nationality or academic rank, and may be affiliated with non-
academic institutions provided that the work for which they are to be acknowledged has
been published in recognized scholarly journals.
• Nominees must be members of one of the ABA member societies (http://asian-bp.org/) or
the relevant societies from Singapore, Vietnam or The Philippines, and the work that is the
basis for their nomination should have been carried out primarily in one of these countries.
The nominator must submit a completed nomination form and required accompanying
documents.
• A nominator can propose only one candidate for this award.

Nomination packets must include the following:
• Completed Award Nomination Form.
• Letter from the nominator (no more than 2 pages), supporting the candidacy of the nominee,
and highlighting specific contributions/publications deemed representative or especially
worthy of recognition.
• Letter from the nominee accepting the nomination, and a commitment to present a lecture in
the ABA Symposium at the 2024 IUPAB Congress.
• Nominee’s Curriculum vitae specifying the date on which their PhD was awarded.
• One letter of support (other than the nominator).
• Evidence of abstract submission via the 2024 IUPAB website (https://www.c-
linkage.co.jp/iupab2024-bsj-kyoto/cfa.html
).
