Species name: Dictyostelium discoideum
National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology Taro Uyeda
The cellular slime mold Dictyostelium discoideum has two cell-cycle coupled methods of cytokinesis: contractile ring-dependent cytokinesis A and traction-mediated cytokinesis B. Mutant cells lacking mhcA, necessary for cytokinesis A, and AmiA, necessary for cytokinesis B, cannot perform both, and fail to divide following nuclear division (circled), forming binucleate cells. These cells express GFP-histone to visualize nuclear division.
