Predatory motility of 'Rokurokubimushi'1

Species name: Lacrymaria

Lacrymaria is a ciliate that is about 100 um in length and called 'Rokurokubimushi' in Japanese. As its name suggests, Lacrymaria has a elastic neck and catches a small ciliate by extending and contracting the neck quickly. Many things about extension and contraction mechanism of the neck are unknown.
