Species name: Pleurosigma sp.

Graduate School of Life Science, University of Hyogo Nozomi YAMAOKA

Pleurosigma sp. belongs to pinnate diatom and has an S-shaped silicified cell wall, called frustules. It can adhere and glide over the substratum. Actin has a big role in gliding motion. Two actin bundles are present along with the raphe, elongated slit in the frustules. This gliding mechanism and physiological meanings are not understood.
