Sperm movement of the Lake Tanganyika cichlid Telmatochromis vittatus

Osaka City University Kazutaka Ota

A small amount of milt sampled from a testis was observed after mixing with 15µll of lake water. The curvilinear velocity was 120 µm/sec at 20s after sperm activation, on average. Sperm exhibited progressive motility for 300-400 s. Males plastically change sperm longevityin response to the presence of rival males.
