Centipede (power stroke) model of Mycoplasma mobile

Species name: Mycoplasma

Nagasaki University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Daisuke Nakane

This animation of model for gliding motility of Mycoplasma was done in 2007. At that time, we thought that one projecting parts looking like “foot” from the surface of Mycroplasma, use the energy from the hydrolysis of ATP in a dynamic way. Because, one cell owns hundreds of “feet”, the movement of these feet are in harmony.
