Spiroplasma swimming: Mathematical model

Department of Physical Sciences, Ritsumeikan University Hirofumi Wada

Spiroplasma swimming motion reproduced by an elastohydrodynamic simulation of dynamic bistable helices. The swimming motion at zero Reynolds number is driven by “kink-pair propagation” in which a bacterium actively switches its helical chirality periodically.
