Colony spreading of Staphylococcus aureus

Species name: Staphylococcus aureus

Univ of Tokyo Chikara KAITO

The colony spreading ability of Staphylococcus aureus transformed with an empty vector (left panel) or the integration plasmid harboring an inhibitory gene, "fudoh" (right panel) was examined using time-lapse imaging. Ten hours observation was shortened to 20 seconds.

A novel gene, fudoh, in the SCCmec region suppresses the colony spreading ability and virulence of Staphylococcus aureus. Kaito C, Omae Y, Matsumoto Y, Nagata M, Yamaguchi H, Aoto T, Ito T, Hiramatsu K, Sekimizu K. PLoS One. 2008;3(12):e3921/doi:10.1371
