Locomotion of Holosticha polystylata

Species name: Holosticha polystylata

Graduate School of Life Science, University of Hyogo Taniguchi Atsushi

Holosticha polystylata belongs to the class stichotrichia in the phylum Ciliophora. They have a red pigment in the cell. And also, stichotrichia show walking movement on a substrate in the same way as hypotrichia. But unlike hypotrichia, their cirri sparsely exist on the ventral side. They have flexible cell cortex, so they move on a substrate while deforming the cell body.
