Rotational motion of Pleodorina sp.

Species name: Pleodorina sp.

Graduate School of Life Science, University of Hyogo Taniguchi Atsushi

Pleodorina belongs to the Volvocaceae. The colony consists of 64 to128 cells. It is considered that Volvox, which has a reproductive cell, has evolved from Chlamydomonas through Pleodorina, which also has a reproductive cell. Preodorina in this video is still small, so it is difficult to confirm a reproductive cell. An adult Pleodorina has two cells of the different size in its colony. And the larger one is a reproductive cell.
