In vitro contraction of the contractile ring in a fission yeast 'cell ghost'.

Species name: Schizosaccharomyces pombe

Gakushuin Univerity Jun Kashiwazaki

The contractile ring retained in the fission yeast 'cell ghost' was contracted rapidly after ATP addition. Cell ghosts were prepared from fission yeast spheroplast by breaking the plasma membrane and washing out cytoplasm. Ring was visualized by expressing GFP-fused myosin light chain Rlc1. Ring can be observed even by DIC.

In vitro contraction of cytokinetic ring depends on myosin II but not on actin dynamics(Nature Cell Biology, 15, 853–859, 2013)
